Counting Down the Days

Well, the keychains have been delivered and I've moved on to the painting portion of Leaf On The Wind's donation to the Edmonton CSTS. I know, I know. I should have been done loooong ago, but I am a procrastinator by heart. Can't you tell by how often I blog about anything? It gets my creative juices flowing I guess. I also have Jayne hat Christmas tree decorations started up. They're going to be so shiny. Literally. I think I'll get some Firefly creations done this summer as I have it off for two months. Should be plenty of time to get a couple of paintings and a ton of hats done. Should be.

That Time of Year Again

I have pledged 100 mini Jayne Hat keychains for the CCEE and can't wait to find out how they go over with the Calgary crowd! Now I have to make 50 more keychains for the upcoming Edmonton CSTS on June 23! I plan to make a few regular sized hats to donate for that event as well as sell here on Leaf On The Wind. I am also in the process of making a Serenity Logo painting for donation. This years will have a different back ground for the logo this time around. All of my products (sold and donated) have a little tag with the web address on them. Please have a look around and leave a comment here, on the gallery page or, on the testimonial page. Thanks and stay shiny!

It Never Stops

I have once again stretched myself thin by picking up extra projects. I keep thinking up new crochet projects to try out and working on them is getting in the way of actual orders. I do this to myself all of the time. My latest distraction is a Jayne Hat (surprise surprise) inspired laptop case. I need to make a liner for it and will be ordering that from Spoonflower as soon as I can. They have fantastic prints that I can't wait to add to my projects. I will post the finished project when I can. Also, I would like to upload my latest ami pics but I can't seem to find the cord for my camera. The pics are on internal memory instead of a SD card. Figures. (Insert big dramatic sigh). Right now I'm working on three sock monkeys like this one Terrifying Space Monkey.

Bald Heads and Other Shiny Things...

I already tried to post this once. Lost everything. Grrrrrrrr.....

Anyway, the Edmonton CSTS was a huge success. We raised just over $7000 for charity!! I feel so honoured to know such wonderful people as Sheelagh and Drew Semper who were key organizers of this event. My paintings were put into the live and silent auctions and raised $170 and $200 respectively. The Terrifying Space Monkey that I crocheted went for an amazing $75 at the live auction! WOW! Also in the auction was James Hance's wonderfully whimsical art which included "Firefrog" along with other various pieces. He had also sent us some prints and it felt like Christmas when we opened up the package. Thank you just doesn't seem like enough, but an enormous thank you goes out to James anyway for his wonderful contribution to the cause. You are a phenomenal individual, sir. :D

Some of the items for auction. That painting is awfully familiar. ;)

Andy and Sheelagh perusing and bidding on items. Is that Wookie the Chew I see? :)

This week was also a very important one for my son Zachary. He had challenged his class to raise $500 for Leukemia in honour of his grandpa, Earl Dempsey who had passed away from the disease in 2008. If they reached their goal he was to shave his head completely bald on the last day of school. Well, I'm proud to inform everyone that they not only reached this goal, but exceeded it! His class (along with school staff, family, and neighbours) raised $835!! It seemed that everyone wanted to see him without hair. So, on the last day of school (June 28th), my husband Andy shaved Zach's head in front of his class and even got them to join in a bit. They had such a riot! I'm so very proud of my boy for doing such a wonderful thing as this. Now he wants to keep it shaved and his father gave him an electric razor to do just that. Not so sure how I feel about THAT, lol!

My little champion and hero; Zachary Dempsey

Tick Tick Tick....

The time is approaching fast for when we are to embark on our journey to the city for Edmonton's CSTS. The only downside I can see is that I have run out of orange yarn! I have made up about 25+ hats and need some more orange to complete them. So, now we are off to the city a day early to pick up supplies so I can furiously work at finishing them before the Big Damn Event.

Anywho....If you have purchased products from me in person, my site, or even at the CSTS this Saturday (Keychains), please leave a comment in the "Testimonials" page.Just to clarify, I don't see any profit at all from the sale of my products at the CSTS. It's all for charity at every CSTS event! Feel free to comment on any blog as well! Hope you've got your tickets for Saturday!!!

Busy Busy Busy!

This last month has been a whirlwind of a busy time for us. All of my handywork is completed and handed over to the marvellous Sheelagh Semper, fellow Browncoat and organizer of this years CSTS event. I have even included a couple of Terrifying Space Monkeys to the booty! One is crochet and the other is store bought. My talented husband, Andy Dempsey, has made a cunning video of clips and photos to share at the event this year as well. Lots of laughs and merriment to ensue! As a thank you to the relentlessly cheerful James Hance, I have sent him a Jayne Hat of his very own along with two key chains. One for him and one for his sweet daughter, Maddy. You can check out James' site here (www.jameshance.com) and maddy's fundraising site here (http://www.giveforward.com/hugsformaddy). I can't wait for all of the fabulous artwork to arrive from James! This years CSTS is going to rock!  Here's a pic of the new Terrifying Space Monkey that I completed and donated just yesterday when we went to the Done the Impossible screening in Edmonton.

Cap'n Tightpants

Yesterday I woke up to a very pleasant surprise... My husband was perusing Twitter when he noticed a tweet from AB Browncoats. Apparently our good friend, and fellow Browncoat, Sheelagh Semper gave one of my mini Jayne hat keychains to a visiting Nathan Fillion. That's right, Cap'n Tightpants himself! I couldn't believe it! He was was in Edmonton and kindly signed some things for the CSTS as well. How exciting! Not only that, but James Hance of "Wookie the Chew" fame, has decided (and started) to create his Firefly line of "doodles". Every time I visit his site, it brightens my day. :)

What a great day!
